Last week, I posted about how much easier cleaning is with my new broom. But what about a dust pan? Actually, I accidentally left mine behind when I moved earlier this month. But I’m not upset. Because I hate dust pans! I can never pick up everything with them, and they just seem dirty to me. So today I am posting about what I use to pick up what I sweep: a Ryobi 18-volt ONE+ EVERCHARGE Hand Vacuum.
This thing sucks–literally. It’s the best handheld vacuum I have ever used–and I’ve used some good ones. I used this Ryobi to suck large dust bunnies of lint and hair from where furniture previously was in the old house when we sold it. It sucked every bit of debris from the unfinished basement in the new house, too. I use it daily in our new house to keep our hardwood floors clear. It’s also done a good job of keeping our new car clean as well.
I dislike only two things about the vacuum. First, I wish that it had more attachments. I tried running it on the baseboards at the old house, and that turned out to be a mistake–it scraped the paint (and I don’t mean cheap builder-grade paint) from the trim. If this tool had some sort of attachment, I could run it along the baseboards and other surfaces without worry. The second thing I dislike is that the switch is in a location I occasionally touch and accidentally turn off. Perhaps if the power switch were less sensitive, I would have this problem less frequently. But these drawbacks don’t detract from this unit. Some other reviewers have complained about how loud this vacuum is, but in comparison with its suction, I don’t find it disturbingly loud.
One final point: I love that this vacuum has a rechargeable Lithium battery. That battery is makes this hand vac cordless. Although I have multiple Ryobi ONE+ Lithium batteries (for two saws, a drill, and a flashlight), this unit has a different type of charger that you can keep plugged in. In fact, I keep the vacuum and charger on the shelf of the hallway closet so the vacuum is always ready when I need it–which is daily now that I have my fabulous new broom.
To conclude, I’ll say this: This handheld vacuum convinced me that the next vacuum cleaner I buy will not be the Dyson or even the Shark I researched. For the three rooms that require vacuuming in this house, I expect I’ll be buying the Ryobi ONE+ EVERCHARGE stick vacuum instead. (And of course, I’ll review that item when I buy it.)
